Springsteen’s handwritten lyrics sell for big bucks

Handwritten lyrics to Bruce Springsteen’s 1975 hit “Born to Run” sold Thursday at auction at Sotheby’s in New York for $197,000.  It is thought that the original owner of that lyrics sheet is Mike Appel, Springsteen’s manager at the time he wrote the classic song.  Appel in turn sold it to a collector, who then sold it to the most recent owner.  The opening bid was $40,000, and offers quickly escalated through online, telephone and in-person bids.
