1968: The New Yardbirds, John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, begin their first rehearsal in London. The first song they played was “Train Kept A-Rollin”. They would eventually change their name to Led Zeppelin.
1970: At Harvard, Janis Joplin performs what will be her final concert. She ends her performance with a version of Gershwin’s “Summertime.”
1991: Metallica release their fifth album. The album is self-titled but commonly referred to as The Black Album. The album would go #1 in the US and has sold over 16 million copies.
1994: Woodstock 2 – officially “Woodstock ’94” – begins in Saugerties, New York. The three-day festival included performances by Aerosmith, the Allman Brothers Band, Crosby, Stills & Nash, , Peter Gabriel, Metallica, Santana, Traffic and Bob Dylan who didn’t perform at the Woodstock first festival.
