1969 – The second Day of Woodstock, features performances by the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin and Santana. One memorable moment comes during The Who’s set, when the activist Abbie Hoffman interrupts their set and grabs the microphone, Pete Townshend hits him with his guitar.

1975 –  Peter Gabriel announces he’s left Genesis to start a solo career.  Gabriel’s replacement would be drummer Phil Collins.

1986 –  David Lee Roth kicked off his first solo tour at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA.

August 16th is also the day of the passing of the King and Queen as Elvis Presley passed away in 1977 and Aretha Franklin in 2018.
