1969 – The Rolling Stones headline the disastrous Altamont concert in California. The free event concert with Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead and Santana turns violent when the Hells Angels, who are hired as security, kill a concert goer. The concert is documented in The Stones movie “Gimme Shelter”.
1977 – Jackson Browne releases “Running On Empty”, a live album that was recorded during his summer tour. It’s the major live rock album to feature songs that were not previously released.
1986 – Ringo Starr is the first Beatle to get into endorsements when he signs a seven-figure deal with a wine cooler company to be their spokesperson.
1994 – Bush releases their debut album “Sixteen Stone”. The album features “Everything Zen”, “Machinehead” and “Comedown”.
2009 – Bruce Springsteen is honored at the Kennedy Center Honors for his contributions to American culture. During the ceremony President Barack Obama says “I’m the President, but he’s The Boss.”
