Born on This Day: 1943 the late Beatle George Harrison. After his time with the Beatles he had a successful solo career and two great albums with his friends in the Traveling Wilburys.

1963 – The Beatles’ first single, Please Please Me is released in the US. The band’s name is misspelled with 2 Ts on the label.

1972 – Led Zeppelin played their first concert in New Zealand to a crowd of 25,000, the largest ever in that country for a concert. News reported said the band could be heard over five miles from the Stadium.

1980 – Bob Seger releases the album Against the Wind which features the title track and Her Strut.

1984 – Van Halen’s Jump began a 5 week run at the top of the singles charts.

2003 – Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington underwent emergency heart surgery during a routine check up and the band had to postpone a number of tour dates.
