1976 – David Bowie released his tenth studio album Station to Station, this was the last album featuring his famous White Duke character.
1988 – Nirvana recorded a 10-song demo, this demo would eventually lead them to a deal with Sub Pop Records.
1990 – Allen Collins guitarist and one of the founding members of Lynyrd Skynyrd died of pneumonia after being ill for several months. Collins who was one of the founding members also co-wrote most of the band’s songs including “Free Bird”, “Gimme Three Steps” and “That smell”.
1991 – an Albuquerque, New Mexico, radio station plays Led Zeppelin’s song “Stairway To Heaven” continuously for 24 hours to as a precursor to a format change to classic rock. After the song plays more than 200 times, a listener reports that the DJ had suffered a heart attack and police were called to the radio station under suspicion that the radio station was being taken over by terrorists as the Gulf War started a week prior.
2000 – Santana topped the album charts for the first time with the ‘Supernatural’ album, which would go to win eight Grammy awards.
