Born on this day: in 1947 the late Warren Zevon, who had a number of his songs covered by artists including Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne.

1969 – Jethro Tull played their first American show performing at New York’s Fillmore East as they open for Blood, Sweat & Tears.

1980 – A billboard in Sunset Strip, West Hollywood was erected to promote Pink Floyd’s new album The Wall. The initial billboard features A blank wall and each day a brick was ‘removed’ to slowly reveal the title of the album.

2012 – Pete Townshend sells the publishing rights to about 400 songs he has written to the Spirit Music Group. You may be familiar with the Who’s music being used for the original CSI (Who you are), CSI Miami (Won’t get Fooled Again), CSI New York (Baba O’RileY) and CSI Cyber (I Can see for Miles)

2016 – David Bowie was at No.1 on the US album charts with his final album Blackstar. This was Bowie’s only album to top the Billboard 200 in the US.
