1980 – Steely Dan releases “Gaucho”, their last studio album before their initial break up. The album features contributions from Rick Derringer and Mark Knopfler and over 40 different musicians. The band spent over a year in the studio recording the album.

1987 – Billy Idol’s “Mony Mony” hits number one on the singles chart. He knocks off Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now”. Both of those songs were originally recorded in the ’60s by Tommy James & the Shondells.

1991 – Aerosmith became one of the first rock bands to perform on “The Simpsons” when they “Walk This Way” on the “Flaming Moe’s” episode.

1995 – Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong gets arrested for mooning the audience during a show in Milwaukee. He pays a hefty fine of $141.50.

1995 – Led Zeppelin’s long time manager Peter Grant dies at the age of 60. Peter is widely credited for improving pay and conditions for musicians in dealings with concert promoters.
