1964 – The Who performed for the first time as THE WHO in London, they were previously known as The High Numbers
1972 – The late-night show “In Concert” premiered on ABC it was produced by concert promoter Don Kirshner. The first show featured Alice Cooper, the Allman Brothers Band and Poco.
1974 – Elton John is joined by John Lennon during his rehearsal for Elton’s upcoming Madison Square Garden performance. Lennon would make a surprise appearance during the show.
1991 – Queen’s Freddie Mercury died of complications from AIDS. He was 45 years old.
2007 – Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea loses his home during a wildfire that swept through Malibu. His home was one of about 53 destroyed by the blaze.
