1968 – Cream began their farewell tour at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, CA.

1970 – Janis Joplin passes away at the age 27.

1975 – Pink Floyd reached number one on the Billboard 200 Album Chart for the second time with “Wish You Were Here” which spent two weeks on top of the chart.

1980 – Queen reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart for the second and final time with “Another One Bites the Dust” which began a three week run at number one.

1986 – Dan Rather is mugged by two men asking “Kenneth, what’s the frequency?” This incident would later influence the R.E.M. song “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?”

1996 – Van Halen announces that former Extreme singer Gary Cherone would be replacing Sammy Hagar.

1999 – Ozzy Osbourne issues a press release asking the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to remove Black Sabbath from the ballot. Black Sabbath eventually get inducted in 2006.
