Happy Birthday: Tommy Shaw, guitarist for Styx born in 1953

1977 – David Bowie appears on Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas special. When Bowie refuses to sing “Little Drummer Boy” with Crosby, his part is rewritten as “Peace On Earth.”

1982 – John Mellencamp becomes the first male solo artist with a #1 album which was “American Fool” and two Top 10 singles, the #8 “Hurts So Good” and #4 “Jack & Diane” all at the same time.

1987 – Peter Gabriel cleans up at MTV Video Music Awards, winning best video, best male video, best concept video, best special effects and five other awards for the track ‘Sledgehammer’.

1996 – David Bowie release a single called “Telling Lies” on the internet before it hits radio. Becoming the first major artist to do so.
