1967 – The Doors are asked to change their line “Girl, we couldn’t get much higher” in their song “Light My Fire” to “Girl, we couldn’t get much better” on The Ed Sullivan Show. Jim Morrison initially agrees, then sings the line anyway, angering Ed Sullivan and earning a lifetime ban from the show.

1967 – Keith Moon rigs his bass drum to explode at the end of “My Generation” during The Who’s appearance on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The explosion cuts Moon’s leg, singes Pete Townshend’s hair and causes ringing in Pete’s ear.

1982 – Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” makes it to the big screen as a feature-length musical. The movie becomes a surprise box office hit and a cult classic.

1991 – Guns N’ Roses release both “Use Your Illusion I & II” . Each album has four million copies shipped out, at the time the largest ship-out of an album in the U.S.

2003 – David Lee Roth needs 22 stitches after injuring himself onstage while performing with a samurai sword on stage in Philadelphia. Roth cancelled the seven remaining dates of his tour.
