1985 – Dire Straits scores their only number one as “Money for Nothing” topped the billboard singles chart.
1993 – Nirvana releases “All Apologies,” It’s the last Nirvana single released while Kurt Cobain is still alive.
2001 – The benefit concert “America: A Tribute to Heroes” was broadcast across the US. Bruce Springsteen, U2, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers appeared. The concert raised $30 million for the United Way’s September 11th telethon fund.
2004 – Green Day releases the album “American Idiot” and it becomes the band’s first number one album.
2009 – Eddie Van Halen made a cameo appearance on the 7th season premiere of “Two and a Half Men”.
2011– R.E.M. announce that they’re calling it quits after more than 30 years. The band posted on their website thanking fans and friends and concluding with “To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”
