1968 -The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” hits #1 for the first of nine weeks, which is the longest of any Beatles single that topped the US charts.

1976 – After missing his deadline, A&M Records sued George Harrison for $6 million over non-delivery of his latest album “Thirty Three & 1/3”. Warner Bros. Records buys out Harrison’s A&M contract and releases the album two months later.

1989 – Jimmy Buffett publishes his first book, a collection of short stories called “Tales From Margaritaville” that blends truth with confabulation.

1996 – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performs two songs on the the season premiere of Saturday Night Live.

2000 – The surviving members of Queen attend the premiere of “Ballet For Life”, a ballet tribute to late Queen singer Freddie Mercury.
