1st Sgt. was my son’s NJROTC instructor at Norview High School, and the main reason my son not only got through high school but also joined the United States Marine Corps and is now a Sgt stationed at Camp Lejeune. 1st Sgt dedicates an enormous amount of time to Norview’s NJROTC program, whom he has taken to Nationals to compete against the best in the country for many years now. He instills respect, discipline, patriotism, and all around good leadership virtues into the young men and women he works with on a daily basis. I am grateful to 1st Sgt for serving our country first as an Active Duty Marine, then during retirement as a full-time teacher in Norfolk Public Schools to make our youth the future leaders of this country. 1st Sgt. Bertrand is truly a hero!
