Dale retired after 30 years service. He served aboard 4 ships, 3 overseas duty stations and numerous shore activities. He was onboard the USS Iowa when the turret explosion occurred and played a vital role in establishing emergency communication circuits during the aftermath. He received many medals including Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals and a Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He also earned 6 Good Conduct Medals and several campaign and service ribbons.
