Jason DeShields, US Navy

Jason was nominated by his wife Candice:

I would like to nominate my husband, Jason, as the military member of the week. He has served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years and is currently in the process of transferring to the Army National Guard. Before he joined the military he was a volunteer firefighter for 15 years. He continues with this same passion of helping others into his professional career.
He has been deployed twice in his career. We were 4 months pregnant with our first child when he left for his first deployment. He didn’t get to meet his son until he was three months old. He was able to hear the birth but nothing is like actually being there. This is often occurs during a person’s military career yet is never easy. Since then we had another son and another deployment. His strength to both support his family in all ways a husband/father should he has done with great pride. Not a day goes by that we aren’t thankful for him being the great man he is. No matter how simple the task at hand he treats it with the up most importance. Missing out on our boys growing up and their milestones is something he has to sacrifice to ensure his was providing for his family and making sure the country is secure. We love him so much and can’t tell him enough how proud we are for all of the sacrifices he has to make on a daily basis for us.
