Jerry Davenport, Navy and National Guard

Jerry was nominated by Karen Davenport,

He went to Vietnam twice. When he got out of the Navy he joined the VA national guard for sixteen years as well as a Chesapeake police officer for 32 years. When he was in his forties he started getting sick with different things. He has 90% of Agent Orange side affects! They let him go from the National Guard. After being on the police force for 32 years he had quadrupal heart bypass and was no longer able to work. That’s when we found out he has 90% of Agent Orange symptoms. He has always been on his feet, been a good provider, a great sailor, and a peacemaker on the force, all the while being a family man. He still has his parents and his father is 94 was in WWII his father is better off than Jerry is. 3 years ago he was helping our son build a deck, today if he runs to the store when he gets home he has to lay down. He’s going down hill very fast! He loved the military, and he loved protecting citizens of Chesapeake. He does have PTSD for both the military and police work. He is such a good man and I think he deserves this honor. Thank you.
