MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Eric Emerson, a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, was selected as Senior Civilian of the Quarter serving with Naval Support Activity (NSA) Hampton Roads, Virginia.

The Civilian of the Quarter award recognizes Department of Defense civilian employees for distinguished or extraordinary service in their organization and command. Over the course of a calendar quarter, nominated civilians must exhibit exceptional performance or service when measured against their general position responsibilities.

“Being the Senior Civilian of the Quarter for NSA Hampton Roads is quite the honor,” said Emerson. “There are many civilians working at NSA Hampton Roads that are worthy of being the Senior Civilian of the Quarter, but I was fortunate enough to be the one that was chosen. I work hard each and every day for the military members and their families and for my hard work, I was granted this great honor.”
Emerson is the Community Recreation Programmer for Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) responsible for overseeing the upkeep of Cutter Park to pristine conditions, allowing families a safe and relaxing outdoor space to spend their leisure time.
Emerson was heavily involved in the planning and execution of several special events, including Disc Golf tournaments, Norfolk Tides trips, Back to School Bash with over 450 attendees, Dolphin Watching Trip, Bark in the Park and ODU football trip.
Additionally, as the Supervisory Recreation Specialist, Emerson was highly instrumental in the command’s success over the last year in overseeing self-help projects (pavilion rehabbing, trash can painting, ceiling fan install) that enhance the patron experiences while at the parks.
According to Navy officials, NSA Hampton Roads has the largest concentration of fleet headquarters administrative and communication facilities outside of Washington, D.C. NSA Hampton Roads is home to more than 6,000 personnel that includes major tenant commands: U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Joint Staff Hampton Roads, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command, Naval Submarine Forces, Atlantic; and Naval Reserve Forces Command.
The mission of NSA Hampton Roads is to maintain focus on force development and generation by enabling robust command and control for the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, North Atlantic Treaty Organization and interagency units; providing premiere training and operational facilities and ranges to sustain our force generation activities; supporting warfighting with world-class medical, family support and recreational facilities and services; and enhancing relationships with the community partners in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and North Carolina.
Emerson is a 1992 Virginia Wesleyan University graduate and has currently served 24 years in the federal service.
His father, Dean Emerson, previously served in the Army for five years and resides in Franklin, Virginia.
