WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 1987 Kempsville High School graduate, a 1992 Virginia Tech graduate and a native of Hampton Roads, Virginia is serving at Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic.

Navy civilian Denton “Trip” L McCord III is a military construction program and business manager responsible for identifying and implementing design and construction process improvement opportunities to remove employee frustration and increase accuracy, productivity and effectiveness.
McCord has been working in government service for 17 years, with 10 of them being at NAVFAC.

“Initially, I desired a career with the Department of the Navy (DON) since the largest Naval base in the world was located in Norfolk, very close to where I grew up in Virginia Beach,” said McCord. “Secondly, I had witnessed how the DON had propelled my father into a successful career within the Virginia Beach School system as an educator, principal and math/science instruction specialist. Ultimately, after having the opportunity to work in the private sector and the federal government as an engineer, I favored the global opportunities, mentorship, ethics and stability of a career with the federal government.”

There are many opportunities for civilians to earn recognition in their command, community and careers. McCord is most proud of of the opportunities NAVFAC has afforded him.
“My career path within NAVFAC enabled me to be competitive for opportunities at NAVFAC EURAFCENT (Naval Facilities Engineering System Command, Europe, Africa, Central = the oversea’s Headquarters for NAVFAC in Naples, Italy),” added McCord. “This opportunity afforded me the opportunity to conduct employee focus groups at Public Works Departments in Africa, Bahrain, Greece, Spain, and Northern Italy. These focus groups identified generated improvement opportunities for Headquarter’s engagement/emphasis at each location.”
