After picking about Bohemian Rhapsody and some of the things I didn’t like, I thought I’d mention what I loved about the movie. There’s a reason they this is the highest grossing music biopic of all time.
You’ll want to sing along
The music is one of the highlights of the movie, there’s a reason why there had a singalong version released in theaters weeks after the original was out. There’s enough of the hits that you can sing along with during the movie. Especially the part of the movie when they record Bohemian Rhapsody over and over.
Brian and John get a chance to shine
While the focus is primarily on Freddie in the movie, Brian May gets his moment during the recording of We Will Rock You. John would also have his moment with Another One Bites the Dust. John’s song would become one of Queen’s best sellers in their catalog.
The Casting
Rami Malek does a great job as Freedie Mercury and deserves any awards he wins. He does so well in the movie and even learned Freddie’s movements from a movement coach.
The Bickering
I loved the bickering and kind of wish more of this was in the movie. But what was in there was great. The band argued over singles and what song should be included on the album. Things that all go through, it’s nice to see the struggles and the tension.
The Live Aid Performance
Their performance at Live Aid was a career highlight and the cinematography during this portion of the film is amazing in detail, including down to the cups that were on the piano. Rami and the other actors pretty much recreate Queen’s Live Aid set.
It had its flaws but it’s a good movie overall!
