September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month—and Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA) wants to remind you to take charge of your health. About 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, but early detection can make a life-changing difference.
If you’re a man between the ages of 45 and 50 with an average risk for prostate cancer, VOA recommends you start the prostate cancer screening conversation with your doctor.
And, if you have a family history—or you’re African American—VOA recommends starting that conversation even earlier and initiating screening between ages 40 and 45.
Early detection gives you options. Prostate cancer screening can help find cancer sooner, when treatment is often most successful. Talk with your provider and take an important step toward protecting your health.
