1968 – Deep Purple make their stage debut at a show in Denmark.

1970 – Paul McCartney releases his first solo album, McCartney

1978 – the movie FM featuring appearances from REO Speedwagon and Tom Petty, debuted. The Soundtrack featured Steely Dan, the Eagles and Bob Seger and did much better than the movie which came in went in theaters.

1993 – Aerosmith released their eleventh studio album Get a Grip which went on to become their first number one album in the U.S. and sell seven million copies.

1999 – During a concert at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, Billy Joel announces his retirement from touring and recording pop music, as he wants to focus on classical music. His retirement doesn’t last long; he returns to the stage at the end of the year.

2002 – In a dispute over who owned the rights to Nirvana’s recordings former members Dave Grohl and Kirst Novoselic asked a Seattle Court to prove that Courtney Love was mentally stable. They told the court that Love was ‘irrational, mercurial, self-centred, unmanageable, inconsistent and unpredictable.’ They also claimed a contract was invalid because Love was ‘stoned’ at the time.
