1966– Janis Joplin performs with Big Brother & the Holding Company for the first time.

1967– California’s Magic Mountain Music Festival, featuring Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and The Byrds is considered the first rock music festival. The festival drew a crowd of 15,000.

1971– During Jethro Tull’s concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, police fired canisters of tear gas into the audience which resulted in 28 people being hospitalized. The band played on despite some of them having trouble seeing their instruments. The venue wouldn’t host another rock concert for 5 years.

2007– The HBO show “The Sopranos” airs for the last time. “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey plays on the jukebox while Tony Soprano sits at a diner. It cuts to black on the line, “Don’t Stop.” The songs regained popularity and would become the most downloaded song released before the download era.
