1968 – John Lennon and Paul McCartney appear on The Tonight Show to announce the formation of Apple Records. Unfortunately, Johnny Carson is off and the guest host is the sportscaster Joe Garagiola.
1987 – Mötley Crüe holds a listening party for their album Girls, Girls, Girls at a strip club in Hollywood called “The Body Shop” which is one of the venues mentioned in the album’s title track.
1988 – Atlantic Records’ holds their 40th Anniversary celebration Madison Square Garden. The 13-hour concert featured many artists on the Atlantic label’s including Foreigner, Yes, Genesis, and a solo set from Robert Plant. The event closed with a reunion of Led Zeppelin, with John Bonham’s son Jason taking over drums for his father John Bonham. The band’s performance is notable as Robert Plant reluctantly sang Stairway to Heaven hours after he told Jimmy Page he didn’t want to sing it.
1993 – Four costumes worn by Kiss sold for $26,000 at Christie’s Rock and Pop Memorabilia auction in London.
