1970 – The Canadian band The Guess Who hit #1 with “American Woman.”

1974 – Bruce Springsteen’s career get a big boost when he opens for Bonnie Raitt in Boston. She insists he plays his full two-hour set. Rolling Stone’s Jon Landau sees the show and writes in Boston’s The Real Paper, “I saw rock and roll future, and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” Landau went on to become Springsteen’s manager and producer.

1987 – The Grateful Dead shoot the video for “Touch Of Grey” after a concert in Monterey, California. It’s their first music video, and it goes into rotation on MTV, giving the group their biggest hit.

1992 – Bruce Springsteen performs live on network TV for the first time when he’s the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.

1998 – Jimmy Page performs on Saturday Night Live with P. Diddy as they perform “Come With Me” which sampled the guitar riff of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”.
