Military Hero

Military Hero
Sean was nominated by his wife, Angelina: My Husband is currently on Active Duty with The United States Navy. He is a Corpsman currently working for Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He has been serving our country for fourteen years with an impeccable record. Eight years ago while deployed in Kuwait, Iraq, he was terribly injured. Most recognize it as " Invisible Scars". I knew that my husband was suffering from PTSD when he returned, I spent many hours researching his symptoms, he failed to see it. As the years progressed, I knew that something was terribly wrong, and it was more than PTSD, again, he failed to see it. He started displaying memory loss, trouble with comprehension, slurred speech, insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. Two years ago, he faced his issues as I was at my wits end and forced him to be seen. He was placed on limited duty, a waiting retirement. We found out one year ago, that he suffers from Traumatic Brain Injury, Narcolepsy with Cataplexy, extreme Anxiety and PTSD,and severe hand tremors. He has been enrolled in the Wounded Warriors Program and has participated in Warrior Games. This has helped him and lifted his spirits a little. However, he feels that he is undeserving of recognition. My husband left one way and returned completely different. Most of his friends( brothers) have committed suicide that were with him on Deployment. This haunts him daily. Again, he feels undeserving of being alive. As a Corpsman, he has had to participate as a medical examiner, assist in surgeries, which some were unsuccessful, retrieve deceased men and women, which some were his friends. He has been through so much, I can't begin to fathom the horrors that has and continues to face. Again, he never wants recognition. The many deaths that have surrounded him, the medical issues that he deals with daily, his constant struggles to hold conversations or to have the energy to play with our young daughter, he still manages to push through and do his best. I am so proud of him to be as strong as he is. Despite it all, he still puts others before himself and has heart of Gold. He is my hero.
