Military Hero

Rebecca was nominated by her husband, Chuck: My wife, Rebecca, has been serving for the past 21 years. She is currently a Navy Diver Chief (NDC) at Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 based out of Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek - Ft. Story. She has had a very trying career in the Deep Sea Diver field but has kept pushing on. I am a retired Navy Diver and know how hard it is for women to progress in this male dominated, extremely chauvinistic field. She has had to work harder than most men to get to the position she is in now and continues to have to prove herself every day. Over the years while serving at several diving commands, she has made an outstanding reputation for herself and is the senior female enlisted diver in the Navy. She continues to mentor the junior female divers throughout the Navy and devotes a lot of off duty time keeping in touch with each of them. Whenever I think I’m having a hard time or a bad day, I reflect back to some of her days when she was a junior sailor and the “old school, good ol’ boys club” was making her life miserable. This is just one of the many reasons she is my hero.
