Military Hero
I have never met a person more committed to the Navy slogan, "Honor, Courage, Commitment". Jared graduated high school early and joined the Navy at age 17. He chose to go into submarines which is one of the toughest billets to handle, due to lack of communication with the outside world, the nature of the missions, and the intense lifestyle that accompanies the honor of the silver dolphins.
He has been a "sea-dad" to many brand-new sailors, often resulting in those sailors making rank quickly. Jared himself made 2nd Class Petty Officer within 2 years of joining the Navy, which is almost unheard of, due to his dedication to the Navy and to his shipmates.
After 12 years of service, he continues to work harder than most, handling every opposition with grace and honor. In his professional and personal life, the deck has often been stacked against him, but like a phoenix rising from the ashes, he rises up courageously, stronger than before. He quietly assumes responsibilities from his shipmates, shouldering them with grace, so they are able to pursue a life beyond the uniform. Jared is an excellent teacher and when he is put in charge of instruction, his students retain everything and pass their boards with flying colors.
Jared has recently had some medical diagnoses that made it necessary for him to become disqualified in submarines and he will soon be going to training to become a member of the surface fleet. He has become rather discouraged during this massive shift in his career, but he continues to serve with honor, courage, and commitment, brightening other's days as he goes. He continues to be there for his friends and his stepson, setting aside his own issues and stepping up to help others shoulder their burdens.
Since he has been forced to slow down, his culinary skills have been honed to near perfection! The man cooks all of this awesome, beautiful, ambrosial food from around the world, and he is self-taught.
Jared frequently downplays his contributions to the Navy and to his friends and family. He is humble and reserved, and doesnt take credit for much of anything he does.
I could write a book about him, but I won't. STS1 Devillier is amazing. He is the embodiment of everything a sailor should strive to be, in both his professional and personal life. He deserves the title of "hero" more than anyone I know. I am lucky to have him in my world, as are all who know him.
